JENerational Change is transforming politics into service. In 2020, Jen Perelman ran for Congress against Debbie Wasserman Schultz based on the premise that congressional representation should be treated as a term of public service, not a lifelong career. JENerational Change spotlights other candidates who challenge entrenched incumbents, regardless of their party affiliation. We speak with activists, journalists, comedians, and other public figures who seek to make a positive change for their community. Your patronage ensures that can continue building awareness for insurgent campaigns that seek to chip away at the political establishment!

Allen Ellison: Meet Marco Rubio's Democratic Senate Challenger
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
Allen Ellison is a Democrat who's challenging Marco Rubio for his U.S. Senate seat in 2022. He previously ran for Congress against Rep. Greg Steube in 2018 and 2020.
Here's why Allen is running, in his own words:
"We have watched career politicians stand by and do absolutely nothing for our people. We have watched them fill this nation with hate through their divisive rhetoric, and we have watched them line their pockets at the expense of the American people, while our fellow citizens struggle to make ends meet. I say enough is enough.
We are in desperate need for visionary leaders with fresh ideas who care about the issues that matter to all of us.
It is an astounding and horrible fact that between 18 to 22 military veterans commit suicide every day. The causes for this tragedy are typically depression fueled by PTSD, survivor’s guilt, or low self-esteem due to unpreparedness for civilian life. We must support our veterans and end this crisis.
Of the 61 million Americans living in the United States with a disability, there are 2.6 million living right here in Florida. Some leaders are trying to reduce your monthly benefits, while many Americans that have been deemed disabled by a physician are being denied year after year. This is not right, and we need positive change on this issue.
My vision for our future is centered around improving the quality of life for all citizens. This means protecting social security, healthcare, the rights of women, veterans care, increasing disability benefits, making improvements to infrastructure and our educational system. It means creating good paying jobs, sustainable agricultural development and green solutions for a stronger, cleaner and safer environment for everyone to enjoy. It means bringing families back together and healing the social divide while conquering this pandemic."

Fadhel Kaboub is the President of the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity and an Associate Professor of economics at Denison University.
In his research, he argues that the United States and other countries with sovereign monetary systems can afford to end poverty, ensure full employment and price stability, provide universal healthcare, and ameliorate ecological conditions at a fraction of the costs that society endures under fiscal austerity.
His recent work focuses on the Political Economy of the Arab Uprisings, youth unemployment, and economic inequality. Building upon Modern Money Theory (MMT), he argues that many developing countries need to develop policies that help them regain financial sovereignty in order to achieve full employment and sustainable prosperity.

Medea Benjamin | JENerational Change #18
Wednesday Jan 13, 2021
Wednesday Jan 13, 2021
Medea Benjamin is the co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK and the co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange. She has been an advocate for social justice for more than 40 years.
During the 1990s, Medea focused her efforts on tackling the problem of unfair trade as promoted by the World Trade Organization. Widely credited as the woman who brought Nike to its knees, Medea was a key player in the campaign that won a $20 million settlement from 27 US clothing retailers for the use of sweatshop labor in Saipan. She also pushed Starbucks and other companies to start carrying fair trade coffee. In 2000, she was a Green Party candidate for the California Senate.
Since September 11, 2001, Medea has been working to promote a U.S. foreign policy that would respect human rights and gain us allies instead of contributing to violence and undermining our international reputation. Medea has also been on the forefront of the anti-drone movement, publishing Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control in 2013. She organized the first-ever International Drone Summit, led delegations to Pakistan and Yemen to meet with drone strike victims, and directly questioned President Obama during his 2013 foreign policy address. The campaign against weaponized drones has helped reduce the number of civilian casualties and force the government to compensate the families of innocent victims.
Medea’s work for justice in Israel/Palestine includes taking numerous delegations to Gaza, organizing the Gaza Freedom March in 2010, participating in the Freedom Flotillas and opposing the policies of the Israel lobby group AIPAC. In 2011 she was in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian uprising and in 2014 she was detained, beaten and deported by the Egyptian security forces. In 2012 she was part of a human rights delegation to Bahrain in support of democracy activists; she was tear-gassed, arrested and deported by the Bahraini government. In 2015 and 2018 she participated in Women Cross the DMZ, an international delegation of women calling for peace in Korea.
Her groundbreaking work on the negative consequences of the US-Saudi alliance include the 2016 book Kingdom of the Unjust: Behind the U.S.-Saudi Connection, and the 2016 International Summit on Saudi Arabia. Her latest book, Inside Iran: The Real History and Politics of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is part of a campaign to prevent a war with Iran and instead promote normal trade and diplomatic relations.

Nina Turner | Changemaker of the Week
Friday Jan 08, 2021
Friday Jan 08, 2021
Nina Turner is a hell-raising humanitarian. She's enthusiastically recognized as one of the strongest leaders of the American progressive movement.
Nina is a professor, former Ohio State Senator, national co-chair of the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign, and continues to serve as the President of Our Revolution. She recently announced her candidacy for the special election to replace Marcia Fudge, who was appointed as President Biden's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, in Ohio's 11th congressional district.
As a Congresswoman, she has pledged to hold Joe Biden accountable: "In the midst of overlapping national crises, his (Biden's) administration has a critical window to deliver for the working people and young people who got him elected. If he fails to meet the moment — if he seeks instead to return us to a 'normalcy' marked by corporate handouts and extreme inequality — then the next Trump might be far more dangerous than the one we just defeated."
